English Requirement for Student visa

English language skills are a requirement for receiving an Australian student visa. IELTSTOEFLCambridge (CAE) and Pearson (PTE) test results are accepted by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) for visa purposes.

Institutions set their own English language requirements for course entry, and the English proficiency score needed for your course may be different to the score needed to secure your visa. You should check entry requirements with your institution.

Below are the test score equivalencies:

  1. Dear Author,
I have recently completed my territory education in Physical Science (taught in English). I have applied for PhD admission at Sydney University without ILETS score, since I have completed five years territory studies in English. My professor said that you are going to get offer for PhD admission soon and be ready to apply for your student visa. According to this website https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/student-500, I donot need to show the English language ability for Postgraduate Research sector student visa, am I right? I am a holder of Bangladesh –BGD passport and have applied for PhD in Physics. It would be great for me if you explain me about this requirement, would I need IELTS score or not? So I can sit for IELTS exam in time.
Therefore, I request to you to inform me that would I need to submit English Language ability evidence during my postgraduate research sector student visa online lodgement or not? Thank you for your time
    Best Regards,
    Shafiq Hassan
