STUDENT TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENT IS ENDING ON 31ST DEC 2012

The Australian Government has announced number of changes to its skilled migration program on 8-2-2010 which includes withdrawal of the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) and introduction of new Skilled Occupation List (SOL) from 1-7-2010.

The students who have entered Australia before Feb 2010 has an option to select a skill form the skilled occupation list which is active before this date. The SOL on that date has around 400 skills to select. The current SOL is very small with around 180 skills. So if any student who has completed his 2 years of study and still on a student visa is advised to use this opportunity to lodge their 485 application on the old Skilled occupation list before 31st December 2012.

The transitional arrangements offered by the Government to students who held visa on 8-2-2010 giving opportunity to apply for the temporary Skilled Graduate (subclass 485) visa using the old SOL, which allows eligible students to stay in Australia for 18 months to work or study and opportunity for the students to take up these arrangements ends on 31st Dec. 2012.

SKILLED MIGRATION AND SKILL SELECT

Many skilled migration visas require applicants to lodge an expression of interest (EOI) online through Skillselect. The EOI process provides applicants the opportunity to explore skilled migration options such as being sponsored for skilled visas by Employers in Australia or nominated by State or territory governments, or invited by the Australian Government to lodge a visa application
